Castle Prösels

Castle Prösels was built around 1200 by the Lords of Völs, noble servants of the Bishops of Brixen, and was expanded into a Renaissance castle complex in the early 16th century by Leonhard von Völs, then governor of Tyrol. The present castle complex is almost exclusively the work of Leonhard. In 1981, the castle was acquired by the KURATORIUM SCHLOSS PRÖSELS GmbH.

Guided tours:
Get to know the Knights’ Hall, Pillar Hall, Fireplace Room, Castle Chapel and other interesting rooms of the Renaissance castle during a guided tour. In addition to the guided tours, Prösels Castle offers a special program for school classes and families.

In summer, Prösels Castle hosts numerous concerts in the castle courtyard or on the castle lawn and, in case of bad weather, in the Knights’ Hall.

Lake of Völs

End a summer evening in South Tyrol vacation with a swim or go for a spin in a rowing boat: the Lake of Völs, at the foot of the Schlern, promises rest and relaxation.

By car from Völs/Fié in the direction of Seis/Siusi, after about 1 km turn right to the Lake, continue to the parking lot. Parking is subject to a fee, access to the lake and the bathing area is free of charge. The lake can also be reached on foot from Völs (hiking trail no. 1) and from Seis (hiking trail no. 2).

Oachner Höfenweg

The “Oachner Höfeweg” is an impressive hiking trail through the varied natural and cultural landscape near Völs am Schlern and leads past old farms and Buschenschänken, vineyards and chestnut groves. Especially in spring with the meadows blooming all around and in autumn when the leaves of the trees are colorfully dyed, the circular hike is recommended.

During a visit to Prösels Castle you can immerse yourself in the time of the Middle Ages and marvel at the Knights’ Hall, the castle chapel and other parts of the Renaissance castle complex during a guided tour.

Völser Kuchlkastl

The story of “Kuchlkastl”

The example of “Völser Kuchlkastl” shows how a simple idea can become a tradition. For 40 years now, this successful gastronomic initiative has enriched the autumn in the Dolomites region.

In the distant year 1978 a young restaurant owner had the dazzling idea to create the “Gastronomic October” with colleagues. The “Völser Kuchlkastl” was born. Until then, the hotels and inns in Fiè allo Sciliar had to close their doors in mid-September. The vacation resort closed just when the summer sent its impressive afterbids with gloriously sunny days and azure blue air.

The little church situated on the Peterbühl could be the oldest place of worship in the vacation region Alpe di Siusi. The round apse and stylistic elements on the tower reveal the Romanesque influence.

The 7 lakes hike

At the foot of the Schlern, between Völser Aicha and St. Konstantin, the trail connects seven ponds. It leads through a varied, impressive nature and past ancient and unique cultural landscape. The demanding hike can also be done in sections or in the opposite direction.

The Witch Stone at Völser Lake

If you leave the Völser Lake and walk a bit along the forest path that leads to Seis, after a short stretch on the right side there is a strikingly large stone – the so-called Hexenstein. In englisch Hexenstein means “stone of the wiches”. The Hexenstein is an elongated rock that is covered with moss on large areas.

There is a legend about so many objects in the Sciliar area. So, of course, also the witch stone has a legend, which can be read on a plaque attached directly to the stone.
