The story of “Kuchlkastl”
The example of “Völser Kuchlkastl” shows how a simple idea can become a tradition. For 40 years now, this successful gastronomic initiative has enriched the autumn in the Dolomites region.
In the distant year 1978 a young restaurant owner had the dazzling idea to create the “Gastronomic October” with colleagues. The “Völser Kuchlkastl” was born. Until then, the hotels and inns in Fiè allo Sciliar had to close their doors in mid-September. The vacation resort closed just when the summer sent its impressive afterbids with gloriously sunny days and azure blue air.
The little church situated on the Peterbühl could be the oldest place of worship in the vacation region Alpe di Siusi. The round apse and stylistic elements on the tower reveal the Romanesque influence.
The 7 lakes hike

The Witch Stone at Völser Lake
If you leave the Völser Lake and walk a bit along the forest path that leads to Seis, after a short stretch on the right side there is a strikingly large stone – the so-called Hexenstein. In englisch Hexenstein means “stone of the wiches”. The Hexenstein is an elongated rock that is covered with moss on large areas.
There is a legend about so many objects in the Sciliar area. So, of course, also the witch stone has a legend, which can be read on a plaque attached directly to the stone.
